If something looks wrong

  • Use Ethernet or stand near your Wi-Fi router when checking maximum speed.
  • Run the test more than once because network conditions change from minute to minute.
  • Try without a VPN if you want to measure the direct connection from your internet provider.

How much data does the internet speed test use?+

This lightweight configuration transfers no more than roughly 25 MB across download and upload measurements, and may stop earlier on slower connections.

Where is the test server?+

Generated test traffic is exchanged with Cloudflare's edge network, which normally routes the request to a nearby available data center.

Why is the result lower than my internet plan?+

Wi-Fi conditions, VPNs, device performance, network congestion and the route to the test server can all reduce measured throughput.
