What the result means
The preview checks the camera path you will actually use.
The browser requests a live video stream and displays it in the page after you grant permission. A stable preview confirms that the selected camera, its driver, the browser permission and the current tab can exchange frames. Reported width and height describe the negotiated stream, not necessarily the sensor's maximum specification.
Image quality depends heavily on light, lens cleanliness, focus, exposure and the application's requested format. Judge motion, framing and consistency as well as sharpness. A camera that looks acceptable in bright daylight can become noisy or blurred in a dim room because it must use more gain and a slower exposure.
Reading the signal
Separate connection problems from image-quality problems.
Stable live image
The complete camera path is working. Move your head or hand to confirm the picture updates instead of showing a frozen frame.
Soft picture
Clean the lens, remove protective film, add front-facing light and give autofocus a moment. Negotiated resolution may also be lower than the camera's advertised maximum.
Flicker or bands
Room lighting can pulse at a frequency that conflicts with camera exposure. Try daylight or a different lamp and check the camera's anti-flicker setting if available.
Black or frozen frame
A privacy shutter, competing application, driver problem or interrupted USB connection is more likely than an exposure issue.
Browser-test limits
The test shows the stream exposed by the browser. It cannot measure sensor resolution, color accuracy, frame timing or low-light performance to laboratory standards, and browser privacy rules may hide model and format details.

Browsers negotiate a stream based on their request, bandwidth, camera formats and system settings. The active stream size is not proof of the sensor's maximum still-image resolution.
Does a smooth preview prove the camera's frame rate?+
No. It confirms that frames are arriving, but the page does not perform a calibrated frame-rate or dropped-frame analysis.
Can a virtual camera appear here?+
Yes. Software cameras may be exposed just like physical devices. Check the selected input if the preview shows a generated background, capture card or another application.
